My name is Carlos Camacho
I was born in La Paz Bolivia. I immigrated to the USA in the mid sixties and grew in Manhattan New York. It was a very turbulent decade:
the hippy movement, the Vietnam war, the assassination of world leaders:
John and Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., man landed in the moon. At some point, possibly while in Haaren High School, my passion for art really took root and grew.
I continued my studies at City College of New York, Fashion Institute of Technology where I major in Advertising Design. Internship followed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Natural History, and the Art Students league.
The Masters left their mark on me: Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh, Picasso, Salvador Dali and all theImpressionists of the era. In this formative years such immortal guided the way I painted. With this background I threw myself into my work and experience: life, people, Social issues, the streets, cultural events and travel.
As in my youth I observed and absorbed everything that was happening around me as well in my mature years: the fall of the Berlin wall, computer technology, political and racial Turmoil, the horror of September, 11 2001.
I have always woven it all into the texture of my art. Yet, my earliest years in my native Bolivia have also been influential. some how I have maintained a connection to these roots. To me art is an extension of one's life that no one knows except yourself. Yet, though art you are able to share a glimmer of your experience with the world. My aim is to capture a moment, tell a story, or just freeze a concept or beliefs of mine that will travel and be discover by others.
